The short answer
In most Houston golf communities, the club is a separate business and membership is a separate purchase. In a few, the deed restrictions require it. A handful of clubs we reviewed say nothing either way, so the only reliable answer for a specific home is the recorded documents and a written statement from the club.
What we found
| Club | What we found | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Forest Course (Kingwood CC) | Not stated by the club or community; confirm in writing | No club or Kingwood Greens source ties membership to home ownership. |
| Lake Course (Kingwood CC) | Not stated by the club or community; confirm in writing | No club or HOA source ties membership to owning a home; Barrington listings mention golf-cart access to the club but not membership rights. |
| Island Course (Kingwood CC) | Not stated by the club or community; confirm in writing | Invited's membership page does not mention any tie between club membership and owning a Kingwood home; no HOA or developer source found stating one. Treat membership as separate unless documents show otherwise. |
| Deerwood Club | Not stated by the club or community; confirm in writing | Deerwood membership page does not mention home ownership or residency. |
| Oakhurst Golf Club | No club rights come with the home | Oakhurst Golf Club's membership page mentions no resident discount or link to the Oakhurst community; memberships are sold to the public. (No HOA document checked.) |
| Walden on Lake Houston G&CC | Club membership required for homeowners | Walden CSA homeowners must hold a Social/Athletic membership under the CC&Rs (dated June 10, 1982 per HOA deck) and cannot resign it while they own the home; dues are billed by the club owner and unpaid amounts can become liens. Social membership covers clubhouse, fitness and pool, with golf available for a green and cart fee at set times. Full golf privileges are a separate paid upgrade. The HOA holds an option to buy the club; the April 2026 deck says once bonds are paid (assumed 25 years) the HOA will purchase the club for $10. |
| Atascocita Golf Club | No club rights come with the home | Club says anyone can join and residency is not required; no resident discount or deed-attached membership found. HOA documents not reviewed for golf provisions. |
| Tour 18 (Tour 18 Houston) | No club rights come with the home | Stand-alone daily-fee course, not attached to a residential community. |
| Golf Club of Houston | No club rights come with the home | Fall Creek declaration Art. IV Sec. 8(a): HOA members have no ownership interest and 'no right to enter or to use the Golf Facilities by virtue of being a Member of the Association'; ownership/operation may change and no representations are made. |
| Wildcat Golf Club | No club rights come with the home | Municipal/public course; no home-ownership link. |
| Champions Golf Club | No club rights come with the home | Champions is a stand-alone private club; no source ties membership to home ownership. Treat as unrelated to any home purchase. |
| Augusta Pines Golf Club | Not stated by the club or community; confirm in writing | Club membership page does not mention Augusta Pines residents. |
| Gleannloch Golf Club | Not stated by the club or community; confirm in writing | Club membership page does not mention Gleannloch Farms residents. |
| WindRose Golf Club | Not stated by the club or community; confirm in writing | Membership page lists no residency requirement or resident benefit. |
| Cypresswood Golf Club | No club rights come with the home | Public facility with no attached residential community. |
| BlackHorse Golf Club | Not stated by the club or community; confirm in writing | Club does not mention BlackHorse Ranch or any residency link. |
| Northgate Country Club | Not stated by the club or community; confirm in writing | Membership page does not mention Northgate Forest residents. A broker blog says membership is separate from HOA dues (not official). |
| The Woodlands Country Club | Not stated by the club or community; confirm in writing | No club or Township source found stating any home-ownership link to club membership; club membership is sold through the club's Membership Office. |
| The Club at Carlton Woods | No club rights come with the home | A Woodlands brokerage article states club membership is invitation-based and separate from the real estate purchase; buyers do not inherit a seller's membership. Not confirmed on the club's own site (blocked to crawler). Treat as broker-confirm. |
| Bentwater Yacht & Country Club | Not stated by the club or community; confirm in writing | Club site does not state whether Bentwater residents must or may join. |

Required membership: Walden on Lake Houston
Walden’s bylaws and deed restrictions make social membership mandatory for homeowners, and an owner cannot resign while owning the home 3. Dues are collected like an assessment and can become a lien 37. Golf privileges are a separate, higher membership.
No membership rights: Fall Creek
Fall Creek’s covenants state that membership in the homeowners association gives no right to enter or use the adjacent golf facilities 4.
Separate purchase: Kingwood, Carlton Woods and most others
Invited’s Kingwood Country Club and Deerwood membership pages describe membership tiers and initiation without any link to owning a home in Kingwood 12. In Carlton Woods, a brokerage article reports membership is a separate, invitation-based application and buyers do not inherit the seller’s membership; the club’s own site could not be checked, so confirm with the club 5. Public courses such as Atascocita Golf Club sell plans to anyone regardless of where they live 6.
Questions to ask before you write an offer
Is any membership required, optional or included? Does any membership transfer with the home, and at what cost? Are there club dues or assessments on the resale certificate? Who owns the club, and what happens to membership if it is sold? Get the answers in writing during your option period.
Common questions
If I buy a home on the course, do I get to play the course?
Not unless the club or the deed restrictions say so. In most Houston golf communities you must join the club separately.
Does a seller’s club membership transfer to the buyer?
Only if the club’s rules allow it, often for a fee. Many clubs require buyers to apply as new members.
