Four different models
Kingwood: the Lake, Forest and Island courses at Kingwood Country Club and the Deerwood course are private clubs run by Invited. Membership is a separate purchase; neither club’s membership page links it to owning a Kingwood home 12. Villages such as Kingwood Greens back directly onto the Forest Course 9.
Walden on Lake Houston: the opposite model. Under the community’s deed restrictions, homeowners must carry a social membership in the club and cannot resign it while they own the home; the dues can be collected by lien 34. Golf privileges are a separate, higher category.
Fall Creek: homes sit beside the private Golf Club of Houston, but the Fall Creek covenants say HOA membership gives no right to use the golf facilities 5. The club’s Tournament Course takes public tee times 8.
Atascocita and Oakhurst: public courses next to established neighborhoods. Atascocita Golf Club sells monthly plans to anyone 6; Oakhurst Golf Club in Porter publishes green fees and annual memberships 7.

How to choose
Start with how often you will play and whether you want a club life or just a course nearby. If you want a private club without a required membership, Kingwood’s course villages separate the two. If you want the club built into the home, Walden does that, with the dues to match. If you want public golf close to home, Atascocita and Oakhurst publish their prices. Then read the course-lot rules in the deed restrictions for the specific section; Fall Creek’s, for example, set fence types and grant ball-retrieval easements 5.
